What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel is the general term used for a group of alloy steels which are corrosion resistant due to containing 10.5% or more chromium, the higher the chromium the better the resistance.

Why use stainless steel?

We use a marine-grade of stainless with 22% chromium, this chromium percentage increases the metal's hardness and clearly gives an even longer life span. Stainless steel is considerably harder than the other types of metals generally used in guttering.

Stainless steel's hardness won't crease under ladder pressure and can be removed and reinstalled easily for painting or modifications to your house.

Another benefit of stainless steel guttering is the protective chromium film that forms when exposed to oxygen (providing an elevated defiance to corrosion). This film makes this product ideal for using in thermal/sulphuric and sea/salt air environment also, it's very beneficial also when a house is reliant on clean roof rainwater for tank water supply.

Why doesn't it corrode?

All stainless steels have an elevated defiance to corrosion. This is due to a chromium-rich oxide film which naturally occurs on the surface of the steel. This invisible film on the surface of the metal guards against a wide range of corroding agents. This film if damaged by cutting or machining quickly restores itself in open air offering longer protection. All stainless steels have an elevated defiance to corrosion. This is due to a passivation layer of chromium which forms when exposed to oxygen. This invisible film on the surface of the metal protects against a wide range of corroding agents. The layer is too thin to be visible, which means that the metal remains lustrous.

Is it recyclable?

Yes all parts of our guttering are 100% recyclable as we only use stainless steel products. This includes our brackets and screws/rivets.

What does it cost?

We have included a price guide on our webpage to help with working this out. When you calculate this please bear in mind that stainless steel's lifespan is longer than any other guttering product, therefore it is definitely a case of value over time versus necessarily the up front cost of the job.
